Homeschool Survival Secrets

One of the great things about community is the sharing of secrets. I know this is something I enjoy about Pinterest! Almost every time I log on I find a great “secret” to make my life easier or simpler.

When it comes to homeschooling, I love to hear other people’s “secrets” – ideas that make homeschooling easier or simpler.

Here are a few survival “secrets” that I have learned in our homeschool journey:

+ Take a week break every 5 to 6 weeks
I learned early on that this practice offered refreshing for all of us. It also gave me time to evaluate our progress and reset as needed.

+ Start every school day with a right focus
For us, our faith in God is very important, and we take a few minutes before hitting the books to pray and to remind ourselves why we study and what the purpose of our day is. If we skip this moment, I can guarantee that a rotten day is on its way!

+ Do the important things first
We study Bible, math, and language arts first (and in that order), then move on to history, science, or foreign language. This allows me to be more flexible with our days. So, if we have a rough math day, we can often more easily push history to another day.
