DESCRIPTION:Join us for BHC’s GEOGRAPHY FAIR!  Students may choose any country outside of the United States. LOCATION: Hoover Public Library Fitzgerald and Shakespeare Rooms \n\nStudents may create a digital presentation or tri-fold board. They should be prepared to speak about their country while standing in front of their board or at the computer. This is a low-key way to practice public speaking skills.\nIn addition\, students may dress in traditional dress\, bring a treat to share\, show a traditional dance\, play music from that country\, etc. This is an opportunity for them to be creative!\nAny age may participate.\nStudents may focus on cultural or physical geography or both.\nMultiple students may work together on a single project.\nAll presentations must be in English and the student should be prepared to answer age-specific questions about their project during the open time where other students and parents can come see their project.\nTri-fold\, stand alone cardboard display boards can be found at Hobby Lobby for around $3.\nProjects should not need to be plugged in or require other resources\, and they must not make a mess.\nPresentations should be no longer than 5 minutes each.\nPlease register by November 20 so we can have a final number to prepare for appropriate space for everyone’s projects.\nOn fair day\, please be there at 2:00 to get set up.

DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Alabama has registered with Scripps organization so homeschoolers in Alabama will have a way to participate in the national spelling bee. The winner of this state homeschool spelling bee will move on to the state spelling bee in Birmingham in March. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nState Homeschool Spelling BeeSaturday February 1\, 2025\, 1 pmFaulkner University Birmingham campus4524 Southlake Pkwy\, Birmingham AL 35244(near Valleydale Road and Interstate 65)(Weather date February 8) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year\, we will use the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s online testing platform to hold our Homeschool Alabama preliminary spelling bee via an online spelling test. This will be available January 1-12\, 2025. The top students (approximately 20) from this preliminary bee will advance to the state homeschool bee on February 1. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease register your family here .   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe cost is $15 plus a 4% fee for credit card and web use\, for a total of $20.60. The deadline to register is on or before December 31\, 2024. After you register you will receive an email with word lists to study so the earlier you register\, the better for your student. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou may have a question about our registration closing by December 31\, because the national spelling bee allows registration through January. However\, the Alabama deadline to get our winner info to them is mid-February. So our deadline must be earlier than January 31. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt is FREE to attend and support students at this spelling bee event.
